Maritime History

    Portsmouth, famous for its maritime heritage is the UK's premier waterfront destination. It's tourist and local industries centre around the harbour. The area is steeped in history, and this can be explored or researched in several museums. The city is blessed with many lovely open spaces and there are an abundance of shops, eateries and watering holes.

    Historic Dockyard

    Being a town of rich naval heritage many of Portsmouth's attractions have a naval theme. One can visit great ships such as HMS Victory, HMS Warrier and the remains of the Mary Rose, one of the earliest purpose build warships to serve in the Royal Navy.

    Spinnaker Tower

    Reaching 170 metres (557 feet) over Portsmouth Harbour the Spinnaker Tower offers unrivalled views across Portsmouth and the English Channel. On a clear day you can see 23 miles or more. Experience the feeling of "Walking on air," on the largest glass floor in Europe. Don't visit Portsmouth without a visit!

    Charles Dicken's Birthplace

    Experience a glimpse into the life of the internationally acclaimed writer who was born in Portsmouth in 1812. Find where he built his inspiration for novels such as Oliver Twist and Great Expectations.
